About + Welcome
Over the past century we have moved out of the salons of La Roche Foucault and Gertrude Stein to internet forums and social media for dispersing ideas. Through that transition, many turned from intellectual pastimes and towards Twitter threads dedicated to extremely online celebrity discourse. Compulsory education, although necessary to sculpt minds, has made many in our generation undervalue knowledge and view learning as an inconvenience. In addition, the best news sites are sheltered behind paywalls and available resources are littered with excessively academic language which discourages teenagers from being well read and well informed.
Rosebud is a quarterly magazine serving as a place for young writers to write about what their are passionate about. We are here to enrich and enlighten, encourage and impassion, we are Rosebud. Welcome to the first few issues!
The name “Rosebud” comes from Orson Welles’ 1941 film Citizen Kane. We hope one day our magazine can reach the height of Charles Kane’s newspaper!
